I’m new to Wyzant but not new to tutoring!
I hold a B.A. in Psychology and Elementary Education, as well as an M.A. in Teaching Middle Grades Mathematics, both from Montclair State University. I am certified to teach all subjects from kindergarten through 8th grade, with a specialized certification in mathematics and an additional endorsement in Gifted and Talented education. This academic background, combined with my hands-on experience, has equipped me with a strong foundation to support a wide range of learners.
Throughout my teaching and tutoring career, I’ve worked with students from preschool through high school in a variety of settings, including classrooms, one-on-one sessions, homework clubs, and camps. I currently teach middle school math in a public school and have extensive tutoring experience in math from 1st grade through geometry. I also provide support in other academic areas, including test preparation and organizational skills. My sessions take place online, in libraries, or at students' homes, and I maintain regular communication with families to ensure consistent and effective support.
My approach to tutoring is grounded in the belief that education is not one-size-fits-all. I prioritize building supportive, trusting relationships with students to reduce math anxiety and boost confidence. I tailor my teaching strategies to align with each student’s unique learning style, using visuals, manipulatives, and interactive methods whenever possible. I encourage students to take the lead in their learning, focusing on understanding the process rather than just finding the right answer.
