Hello! I recently graduated from Penn State with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a GPA of 3.96/4.00. While at Penn State, I worked for 3 years as a teaching assistant in the Economics department, leading biweekly tutoring sessions for groups of ~20 students and exam reviews for large groups of 150+ students. In the Fall 2022 semester, I was nominated by the head of the Economics department for a scholarship to recognize my contributions in this role. I also worked as a math tutor for the University tutoring center, specializing in calculus. I found teaching to be fulfilling in part because I enjoyed the course material, but primarily because I enjoy connecting with students and helping to demystify challenging coursework.
I believe that a tutor’s primary role is to ask questions that help their student unlock and form connections within their preexisting knowledge in order to navigate a complex process. In the world of AI and abundant online resources, the instant gratification of finding the correct answer often discourages the genuine effort required to understand the process. A tutor exists to help a student understand the “why” behind the correct answer, and to do so in a personalized and friendly manner.
Currently, I work as an industrial engineer in a manufacturing environment and am taking classes at Rutgers in pursuit of my MBA.
