Hi, my name is Dharshan. I'm a freshman at New York University (NYU), majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a minor in Computer Science. In high school, I enjoyed courses such as calculus, chemistry, and physics, and I'm continuing to pursue my passion for these subjects throughout college.
As an experienced tutor, I've taught at several institutions, including Kumon and Bay Area Chess. I like to approach tutoring by first introducing a topic and asking students to show me their approach. From there, I help correct or improve their understanding, building on what they already know rather than simply showing them how to solve a certain problem. This is a strategy that many of my strongest teachers used in high school, and I found it extremely useful as a student.
I have two years of experience tutoring Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 to middle school students and four years of experience teaching chess to elementary school students. As a competitive chess player, I've won several regional and state-level tournaments over the last six years. I've worked with groups of 3–6 students for algebra and also have experience with individual lessons through teaching chess. Additionally, I've worked alongside many other tutors and learned how to adapt my teaching style to find the most effective way to help each student with topics they may be struggling with. I am currently taking Calculus 4 and am very confident in my mathematical skills.
More than anything, I want my students to benefit from every minute of our lessons. Whether that means providing extra practice, diving deeper into a concept, or answering any questions they may have, I am always happy to help. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!
