Hi I'm Alex! I earned a Bachelor's of Science in Environmental Health (cum laude with highest distinction) from the University of Rochester in 2021. Currently, I am a second year medical student working toward my doctorate in medicine degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

I previously taught K-12 and college students at a STEM education non-profit organization in New York City, focusing on biology and chemistry as well as research skills and how to understand reading peer reviewed scientific literature. I also was a teaching assistant for the University of Rochester's biology department for the Principles of Biology course. My teaching experience totals to 5 years of working closely with students of various ages in one-on-one and group settings.

During my medical school application cycle, I interviewed at 10 medical schools, earning 6 acceptances. This was due to my insightful writing in my personal statement, activities descriptions, and secondary essays as well as my strong interviewing skills. I am experienced with the AAMCAS and AACOMAS application systems and MMI and traditional interview styles. In terms of undergraduate admissions, I transferred universities my sophomore year of college, so I am knowledgeable in exactly what factors to look for in terms of school fit and how to write essays to capture the admissions committees. Through my personal experience and advising over 20 students for college, PhD, and medical school admissions, I am well versed in personal statement editing, acing interviews, and tailoring students' writing toward the missions of specific schools and programs.

I am a primarily virtual tutor whose approach includes focusing on the specific needs of my students and developing unique strategies to enhance their understanding and improve their writing. For applications, I offer asynchronous feedback as well as live editing. 90% of the students I have worked with for applications has been accepted to a program that was a top choice for their goals.

MCAT

MCAT

I have a Bachelor's of Science with biology and psychology minors from the University of Rochester. When I took the MCAT myself, I scored 128 or higher in each section, which earned me 5 medical school acceptances. My philosophy is that each student has different strengths, and I will use those strengths to empower my students as test takers while teaching test taking skills that will not only help with the MCAT, but also throughout medical school!
Physiology

Physiology

I have extensive experience teaching biology at the middle school, high school, and college levels. I worked as a teaching assistant for general biology 2 at the University of Rochester, and I currently teach anatomy to high school students during medical school. As a medical student, I have an in depth knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of all the body systems.

Knowledgeable and hardworking tutor

Before starting tutoring with Alex R, I was struggling in Patho. However, Alex helped me by making practice questions and slides with a lot of important information and using diagrams to help me learn. She did a great job every week and was very prepared for each session. By the end of the semester, I had a much better understanding of the content and my grades were improving too! Thanks Alex!

very positive experience

This was definitely one of the more productive and helpful tutor sessions I have had. She even created a set of slides for us to review based on the specific topic I wanted to discuss. She didn't get off topic at all and I felt that every moment of the session was useful. I will be coming back for sure next time I am stuck in A&P
