Hello Students, Parents, and Guardians! My name is Matt and I’m excited to offer tutoring support for Middle and High School students looking to build or strengthen their understanding of science. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, a master’s degree in Educational Technology and a graduate certificate in Chemistry Teaching. I’ve been teaching for about 18 years both in the classroom and online. In those years I have taught Chemistry, Biology, Earth Science, Physical Science, Environmental Science, Astronomy, as well as 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Science. Throughout my career I have also worked as a tutor and as the Science and Math Department Lead. I have worked with a diverse range of students including students with special needs, gifted students, child actors, students who are looking to become doctors and students whose career aspirations are the farthest from science. I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the diverse ways students approach scientific learning.
My tutoring approach is centered around making complex topics accessible. I take the time to understand each student’s learning style, strengths, and challenges so I can tailor lessons to their needs. I believe that science becomes much more approachable when it includes real-world examples and using step-by-step reasoning. For example, I developed a lesson on Cosmetology for my Chemistry class. I focus heavily on helping students develop strong problem-solving skills, confidence in applying scientific principles, and the ability to break down complex topics into manageable parts. I also prioritize teaching students how to think like scientists—how to ask the right questions, interpret data, and understand the "why" behind the facts. Whether you're preparing for a test, catching up after falling behind, aiming to improve your grades, or just looking to feel more confident in class, my goal is to support you. I am excited to work with you and help you reach your educational goals.
