I graduated with a BA in Comparative Literature, with a concentration in French and Arabic literature, from Wellesley College, where I served as an editor for the campus literary magazine and worked as a writing tutor for the college's learning center. Post-graduation, I worked at a private, mid-size boarding school, first as an English teacher for grades 10-12 and then as a college counselor. I graduated with a BA in Comparative Literature, with a concentration in French and Arabic literature, from Wellesley College, where I served as an editor for the campus literary magazine and worked as a writing tutor for the college's learning center. Post-graduation, I worked at a private, mid-size boarding school, first as an English teacher for grades 10-12 and then as a college counselor. After six years there, I decided to pursue graduate education at the University of Texas at Austin, where I worked as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate French language courses as I completed my master's in French literature.

Many of my former English students have gone on to study related fields in college, such as Journalism and Communications at Lehigh University and Screenwriting at the University of Southern California. As a college counselor, I took a fit-first approach and saw my students go on to a wide variety of schools, from the UCs and other public flagships to private liberal arts schools, including but certainly not limited to, the Ivy Leagues. And although my academic background is in all things reading, writing, and language, I have worked with students across majors to develop comprehensive college lists and gain admission to specialized programs.

In all aspects of my work, I focus on empowering students to express themselves authentically. Whether that means helping a college applicant brainstorm topics for their personal statement, editing a student's essay for English class to make sure their arguments are analytical and well-supported, or practicing French pronunciation with a college student about to go abroad for the first time, I am dedicated to helping my students communicate clearly and confidently. College Counseling

After years of teaching English, I was asked by my school's administration to consider trying out college counseling, to which I took quickly. In addition to my work with students, I attended professional development such as the ACCIS New Counselor Workshop and the annual NACAC conference, and I am still an active member of professional groups for counselors. My students have gone on to a range of schools that were best fit for them, from the International Scholars program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to Harvard. I also have experience, both personal and professional, with navigating nontraditional paths to postsecondary education such as taking a gap year, transferring schools, or looking for schools with strong learning support programs.

I probably should have known I would become an English teacher when I wrote a summary of "A Tale of Two Cities" for my friends who hadn’t finished the book on the first day of our senior year. After majoring in Comparative Literature in college, I began teaching English at a boarding school, where I worked with grade levels 10-12. Whether a student needs help understanding the nuances and complexities of "Hamlet," breaking down the structure of a sentence, or turning their outline into a fully realized analytical essay, I’ve guided students through it all. A number of my former students have even gone on to major in English or related fields in college, such as sports journalism and screenwriting.

No matter what kind of essay you’re tackling, I’m happy to help you at any step of the process: brainstorming, outlining, drafting, or editing. Having worked as a writing tutor in college, a high school English teacher, and a college counselor, I have experience helping students with a wide range of essays, and I pride myself on my ability to empower students to think critically about their own writing. Not only do my students become better writers, but they improve as editors as well! I also recently graduated with my master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where I further honed my skills in writing and editing long-form (15+ pages) academic papers.

French

In addition to studying the French language from a young age in school, I have also lived in Belgium and Morocco. As an undergraduate, I studied Comparative Literature at Wellesley College, where I specialized in comparing French and Arabic literature. When I returned to graduate school, I was accepted to the French PhD program at the University of Texas at Austin, where I worked as a TA, studied foreign language acquisition, and continued to work on francophone literature, from France and North Africa to the Caribbean. I am in a unique position to tutor students who are learning a foreign language, as I have not only studied multiple languages (French, Arabic, Spanish, and Russian), but I have also worked as an English teacher, so I am able to help students look at the language from a variety of perspectives.

Whether you need help understanding the difference between a direct and an indirect object or you’d like someone to check your writing for grammatical errors, I’m happy to help! I’ve worked as a writing tutor at the undergraduate level, a high school English teacher, and as a college counselor who carefully reviewed application essays for even the smallest mistake. In addition, given my experience studying multiple languages (French, Arabic, and even Russian), I am able to help my students pull on their experience speaking or studying different languages to better grasp English grammar.

After years of teaching English, I was asked by my school’s administration to consider trying out college counseling, to which I took quickly. As a teacher, my ability to help students craft personal narratives had already been one of my strengths, leading to at least one of my students placing in the top 3 each year at the school’s annual speech competition. Once I became a counselor, many of my students were able to successfully tell their own stories and earn admission to their top programs and schools, from USC to Harvard. I pride myself on supporting students through every step of the process, from brainstorming and narrowing down topics to the final edits before submission.

Previously, I have worked as a writing tutor at the undergraduate level, a high school English teacher, and a college counselor, so I have extensive experience reviewing almost every kind of writing a student could be asked to produce, from middle school to college. Recently, I spent two years earning my master’s degree in French literature, during which time I wrote both multiple academic research papers and creative short stories for my courses. My final semester, I took the class Scholarly Publication, which took us through the detailed revision process of a previously-written paper with the aim of eventual journal publication. Whether you need help reviewing your citations or someone to spot the spelling mistakes you always have trouble catching, my fine-toothed comb is ready to go!

The school where I taught English previously held two annual speech competitions, one for sophomores and one for seniors. Each year, my classes dedicated around 3 weeks to preparing for these competitions, which included not just time to writing the speeches, but preparing to deliver them publicly as well. Each year, I had at least one, if not two students earn a spot in the top 3 in both competitions. I am skilled in coaching public speaking both in-person and online, as I taught through the Covid pandemic, during which time we held the speech competitions virtually. Personally, I have been public speaking since I was 6 for various organizations in my community and feel comfortable working with speakers of all ages and levels.

As a student at Wellesley College, I wrote an 80-page undergraduate thesis to graduate with honors in my major, Comparative Literature. I also worked there as a writing tutor for the school learning center, where I provided feedback on other senior theses. More recently, I graduated with my master’s in French literature from the University of Texas at Austin, for which I revised a paper that I had written for one of my courses to turn it into a master’s report. In addition, during my final semester at UT-Austin, I took the Scholarly Publication course offered by the English department, a workshop-style class with students from a range of disciplines that was taught by the editor of a major academic journal.
