I am a former high school English teacher who has spent the last 4 years as a K-12 English Language Arts Supervisor. For nearly a decade in the classroom I taught all levels of English from grades 9-12 - in a rigorous and academically competitive school - ranging in levels from college prep to honors and AP. I have a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in education.
I have tutored for nearly as long as I have taught, working with students and families to meet a whole range of needs. I’ve done regular class tutoring, helping students write and proofread essays, in addition to helping students prepare for standardized tests (ACT, SAT). I taught AP Language & Composition for 5 years, and have tutored students getting ready for that exam as well; my class average was consistently over a 4 on the exam. Finally, I have also worked with students through the college application process, helping draft and revise their essays as well as supplemental materials.
My approach with all of my students is to meet them where they are and help them to get to where they want to go; by capitalizing on students’ academic and affective strengths, I work to help them shore up their weaknesses.
