Hi! Welcome to my bio-- I'd love for you to get to know me and my tutoring methods here, so that I can get to know you and your learning needs in the future. I am confident in tutoring topics ranging from elementary school math and reading all the way to the MCAT. I believe that anyone can succeed in their education with the right motivation and support; let me be that for you!
I have over 10 years of teaching and tutoring experience. This started when I was still in high school and continued in my undergraduate education at Northeastern University. Before finishing summa cum laude (3.87), I tutored mostly biology courses in between being a resident assistant (its own form of mentoring!). I loved Boston so much, that I stuck around and was hired by my alma mater to teach independent biology lab courses, where I had about a hundred students a semester.
I graduated medical school in May and continue to tutor because I love it! In the past, I designed and taught a MCAT Biology prep course for Rutgers undergraduates. I have also been involved with mentoring programs for college students interested in becoming physicians. Teaching and mentoring my patients in the hospital has also always been rewarding for me; the same goes for my students.
My approach to tutoring and learning is all about doing it smarter. You can spend hours struggling on your own and succeed, this is true. Instead, with a good teacher, you can learn in a way that you can be confident things are going to STICK! To accomplish this, I try to teach things in the easiest “Explain it like I’m five” way. To finish it off, I value active over passive learning; let’s go over real-life examples, let’s do practice problems, let’s have you take a shot at teaching ME! I’ve found that these techniques have helped me succeed, and I’m confident they will work for you too.
If you need any more information about my qualifications or would just like to see if we are a good fit, don’t hesitate to reach out! I can’t wait to hear from you!

Biochemistry

Biochemistry

Biochemistry is a fundamental course for any with the plans to advance their knowledge in the life sciences. Both as a tutor and medical graduate, I am well-versed in the practice of breaking down complex topics into understandable and digestible versions; biochemistry included. If you are looking for a tutor to help put biochemical concepts into the bigger picture that is the human body or medicine, I can help!
Biology

Biology

I graduated Northeastern University with a BS in Biology summa cum laude (3.87 GPA), where I then tutored in the courses I completed. At this time I was also lucky enough to have real-life experience working in both a pharmaceutical and academic lab doing mostly microbiology and genetics research, as well as a in vivo Axolotl lab. Afterwards, I was hired by Northeastern to teach independently as a laboratory course instructor in courses such as BIO 1 and Genetics. I am now a medical school graduate and as anyone can surmise, medical education includes a heavy focus on human biology, pharmacology, and public health.
Genetics

Genetics

I graduated Summa cum laude with a 3.87 GPA from Northeastern University, during which time I completed the general genetics course, and higher level including graduate genetics courses. I tutored Northeastern students in the subject after completing it, For three semesters from July 2015 to May 2016 I taught an independent laboratory course in genetics as well. I have since applied this knowledge in genetics to the field of medicine, and have helped many students reach their academic goals by seeing the bigger picture.
MCAT

MCAT

I have successfully taken the MCAT with an equivalent percentile score of 97.1 overall, and a 99.4 in the Biological Sciences. Today, this would look like a 519 overall, and a 131 on the Biological section. While the test has certainly changed over time, I would argue that test-taking skills and core science knowledge and reasoning has not. This is evidenced in the successful undertaking of the MCAT Biology Prep course I co-taught for Rutgers University undergraduates. In Summer 2017, I helped improve the scores for 22 future doctors, and this was for the updated version of the exam. Based on practice score exams before and after this course, every student in the class improved their scores; a huge success! Since then I have helped many students 1 on 1 reach their goals for scheduling, "high-yield" studying, and exam-taking skills.
Microbiology

Microbiology

In my undergraduate career, my biology focus has always been on the microscopic scale-- I took courses including Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, and Parasitology. I applied this knowledge in a pharmaceutical lab where I fermented(grew) cultures in order to test them for novel antibiotics, as well as an academic lab where I had bacterial cultures that could amplify CRISPR/cas9 gene plasmids I was designing. Medical school as well has a heavy emphasis microbiology due to the sheer number of pathogens that are trying to harm us! Microorganisms are so important to life on this earth and I am continuing to learn more about them as I teach in the subject.
Physiology

Physiology

The medical school curricula has a heavy emphasis on physiology, which is needed as a very strong foundation for the higher levels of pathophysiology, medical diagnosis, and treatment. If you are a student interested in or already pursuing a career in healthcare, I am the right tutor for you! I always keep the physiological concepts I teach in the scope of human medicine, both so you know can understand why you are learning what you are learning, as well as to help concepts stick with real-life uses.

Extremely helpful for mcat! Definitely would recommend

Worked through the thought process of questions as opposed to doing too much granular review. Helped out a ton with putting thing in perspective with MCAT because it is easy to get caught up in the details and even more so getting anxious when seeing those in the bigger picture. Works patiently and encourages pushing yourself so tutoring with him has been really good for staying accountable and keeping a growth mindset throughout.

great tutor

Working with Ori has been great! He’s been helping me write my medical school secondary essays and has helped me make my writing more engaging while also communicating my ideas well. He’s been helping with the creative aspect of med school secondaries where the best method is “show don’t tell.” Ori also gives honest and thoughtful feedback, I’d definitely recommend him for anyone who’s looking for help with writing!
