Bio

I hold a Master’s degree in Spanish Linguistics from Middlebury College and have lived in three cities in Spain — Bilbao, Barcelona, and Madrid — giving me a deep, practical understanding of both the Spanish language and Spanish culture. During my time abroad, I also achieved fluency in Catalan. Additionally, my mother’s family is from Mexico, which has given me lifelong exposure to Mexican culture and regional Spanish.

I have over 15 years of experience teaching and tutoring students from pre-K through 12th grade, as well as adults. My background includes teaching English in Spain for two years, working in a border town in Texas for four years, and teaching in New York State for three years. I’ve supported learners from Title I schools, private academies, and many settings in between, which has helped me become a flexible, student-centered educator.

Language learning is truly my passion. I speak and write Spanish and Catalan fluently, speak high-intermediate French, can navigate in Hebrew, and am literate in Cyrillic-based languages. I am also certified by the Japanese government at a high beginner/low intermediate level of Japanese.

As of January 2026, I am JLPT N4 certified. The JLPT is the Japanese government's gold standard for testing foreign language learners in the Japanese language. This certification means that I am able to teach beginner (1st~2nd year) Japanese.

My daughter is taking AP Spanish in high school and initially felt unprepared in all areas and was considering dropping the class. Kristofer helped her prepare for a vocabulary test, and she earned a perfect score, which gave her a much-needed boost of confidence. He is calm, explains concepts clearly, and uses creative methods to help my daughter remember vocabulary. Because of that success, we now meet with him twice a week to continue building her skills. We feel very fortunate to have found him.

I had a great tutoring session with Kristofer! He gave me a clear refresher on the basic Spanish verb tenses, especially the preterite and imperfect, and explained the differences really well. His tips for remembering these tenses were super helpful. We also reviewed the future tense and how it's used differently in Spanish, which was above and beyond. I really appreciated his patience in making this all easy to follow. Highly recommend!
