Hi I'm Marisa!

I graduated with distinction with a Master’s in Urban Design and have a Bachelor of Architecture degree. I have over ten years of professional experience working at architecture firms in New York City and Los Angeles. I am well-versed at giving public presentations, writing professional correspondence, and have worked with diverse teams and community agencies. I bring these professional communication skills to my tutoring sessions.

Another one of my passions is studying and teaching language. I am a native English speaker and studied both Spanish and Japanese in college. Currently, I am working towards completing the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate at UCLA Extension. This certification has equipped me with methods to teach English speaking, listening, and reading. I have experience developing both written and video lesson plans that are tailored to each student and utilize the latest teaching technologies.

While studying abroad I had the opportunity to tutor high school students English. Currently I volunteer locally with adult ESL students and specialize in Conversational English and Diction.

I understand that it is challenging to learn a new language as adult and strive to create a teaching environment that is positive and rewarding. I offer lessons in English Language Skills including reading comprehension, writing, listening, and speaking. I always look forward to meeting new students.
