I am currently a first year student at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School with a BS in Biochemistry. I have been tutoring students from middle school age to college age for over 6 years and have experience in a myriad of different subjects. In addition to this, I have also completed a Rutgers Honors College Capstone Project and George H Cook Scholars Research Project in the field of biophysical chemistry. I am capable of teaching most science classes, such as biology, genetics, biochemistry, chemistry, and physiology up to both college and MCAT standards. I am also able to teach to any high school level math class as a former math league captain who has placed as high as third in New Jersey in statewide competitions. I had a 3.8 GPA at Rutgers as well as a 519 on the MCAT and a 1570 on the SAT. Where I excel in teaching is test prep, whether it be MCAT, SAT, or ACT as I have routinely gotten my students to improve from below the 20th percentile to above the 80th. I teach them not only the content they need to know for the exam but also methods of critically analyzing the questions, identifying key information, and independently studying that lead to success.

I attribute my success with my students to my versatility. I have experience teaching in a number of different styles and can adapt my style accordingly. I have experience teaching both online and in person as well as in private one-on-one sessions and in a group classroom setting. In any setting, my ability to tailor my lessons to the specific person I am working with helps my students to better learn. Whether my students require more active engagement, more work with practice problems, or more time spent understanding how to interpret questions, I have found my adaptable style easy to accommodate them.

INCREDIBLE!

I reached out to Jake about a month ago, genuinely concerned that I was not going to pass my anatomy class. After 3 weeks of working with Jake to prepare for my next anatomy exam, I ended up getting an A on the exam. Jake was patient, informative, and engaging. Highly recommend!

I can’t recommend Jake highly enough!

I cannot recommend Jake highly enough, he really helped my son understand concepts about glycolysis and the citric acid cycle that he was struggling with beforehand. Not only does Jake really seem to know what he’s talking about, he also knows how to explain it to my son in a way where he understands it. I can’t recommend Jake highly enough if you want to understand a topic that hasn’t been clicking for you!

Effective and patient Instructor!!!!

Jake is an effective and patient tutor. I was struggling with differential equations, linear equations, and some other Calc 2 topics, and Jake really helped me understand the concepts. What I found most helpful was his use of analogies and his ability to break down the concepts. Thank you Jake!!!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor.

Jake R. provided me with an exceptional tutoring experience. I cannot express how grateful I am for his help. He responded so quickly and was able to help me for my upcoming chemistry exam on Monday. Jake is extremely knowledgeable and explained to me the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation so well. Jake is keen on breaking down concepts into digestible chunks and patiently guided me through each step. He really made sure I understood the material myself and asked me to explain concepts in my own words which was helpful. I feel so much more prepared for my exam. I also gained more appreciation for chemistry. I can really tell Jake not only is knowledgeable, but also truly enjoys teaching. He encourages critical thinking and also sparks a love for learning. I cannot recommend Jake highly enough to anyone seeking an outstanding tutoring experience!
