I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and hold certifications for New Jersey, in Elementary Education and Middle School Mathematics. I currently hold two teaching certifications for New Jersey; an Elementary School Teacher in Grades K-6 Certificate of Eligibility and a Middle School with Subject-Matter Specialization: Mathematics in Grades 5-8 Certificate of Eligibility. I passed the Praxis Exam for Middle School Mathematics on my first attempt.
My educational background has provided me with a strong foundation in mathematical instruction, curriculum development, and effective teaching strategies for students of varying skill levels. I am particularly comfortable teaching elementary and middle school mathematics, including foundational math skills, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I.
My teaching experience includes serving as a 7th Grade Leave Replacement Mathematics Teacher where I taught Pre-Algebra and Algebra I in a classroom setting to the entire grade (roughly 100 students). I also have prior elementary one-one tutoring experience. All students though, whether it be inside of a school or one-on-one, have learned at different paces and had varying levels of confidence in mathematics therefore allowing me to develop patience and flexibility in my teaching approach.
As a tutor, I focus on building a student’s understanding step by step rather than by simply providing answers. I try to be more of a coach or expert content guide rather than a teacher. As a result, I encourage students to ask questions, think critically, and develop problem-solving skills that will help them succeed both in the classroom and on assessments. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, learning from them, and gaining confidence in their mathematical abilities.
