My name is Stephanie! I am a full-time high school teacher dedicated to helping students reach their academic goals and increase confidence. I graduated from Montclair State with a B.A. in History and a Minor in International Studies. I earned an M.A.T in Social Studies and teaching certification, also from Montclair State. I earned certification in teaching students with disabilities through the Rutgers Graduate School of Education I spent the first 5 years of my career teaching AP, Honors, and Gen. Ed. History. For the past 7 years I have been teaching high school English Special Edu. in the general education college prep. setting, where I work through the college admissions essay writing process 1:1 with each student in grades 11 and 12 as a part of the curriculum. English course experience to do date include Pre-AP English 2, English 2, English 3, English 4 (World Lit., Mystery Genre, 21st Century Media, and African American Lit.).
Human beings are most confident in areas of familiarity and interest. My approach for writing begins there. Once students become more confident in writing about topics of interest it’s much easier to move onto essays discussing the prose of William Shakespeare or the divisive characters within The Great Gatsby. With history it’s all about engagement. Even though reading may not be for everyone, everyone loves a story. My most memorable moments as a student were the days in which teachers sat perched on a desk to paint a picture of the past through storytelling. If the storytelling is engaging enough, the intrigue and understanding grows.
It’s not always about being THE best, but being YOUR best. We all learn differently and we all have different measures of success. I hope that students working with me will be able to recognize their truest potential and be proud of what they achieve. Whether aiming to boost grades, prepare for a test, or gain a better understanding of the content itself, I’m here to help! Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
