My name is Brett. I graduated from Binghamton University in 2016 with a major in English and a minor in Spanish. As an undergrad, I worked as a Teaching Assistant to Professors of Spanish classes.
I have a Standard Teaching Certificate in New Jersey and have been teaching since March 2021. I've taught High School Spanish, including AP Spanish. I am currently teaching Middle School Spanish and have taught 6th, grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade, as well as 7th grade Honors Spanish and 6th grade Heritage Spanish for native Spanish-speakers. I have taught remotely during covid and in a full classroom setting. I have experience tailoring my lessons to all levels of Spanish learners. I have tutored privately as well, including tutoring a friend who will be living in Spain.
Regarding my approach to tutoring, I believe the best way to learn a language is to use it. Therefore, I will infuse the tutoring sessions with as much Spanish as possible. I will create and provide supplemental materials with notes and practice questions in Spanish; we can go over the Spanish questions at the beginning of each session. My goal is to tutor mainly over the summer to give students a leg-up in their Spanish when they enter school in September. If students spend the summer working on their Spanish, they will be at a greater advantage in the following school year. I will happily tailor my tutorial sessions to student interest and ability to ensure success.
I look forward to helping students succeed!
