I am a graduate student working toward my MFA in creative writing at The New School in New York, and I have extensive experience tutoring all sections of both the SAT and ACT. Prior to tutoring, I worked for 15 years as a professional writer, first as a journalist and then as the ghostwriter for the CEO of a financial company.
While the best tutors can provide valuable assistance during sessions, what happens between sessions is equally as crucial. I thus believe that a great tutor must be not only a teacher, but also a facilitator and a motivator. It is my job to inspire students to put in the hard work that is required for improvement, and to provide them with the most effective prep exercises and materials. Confidence and mindset are key to standardized tests, so I also try to create a fun, positive tutoring environment where students feel free to ask questions and vent about their fears or concerns.
