Hi, I’m Max. I’m 30 years old and I’ve had an affinity for math and physics since I was young. More importantly I have been able to spread my appreciation of these subjects to those around me, allowing them to find their own enjoyment in seeing the world through numbers. Hi, I’m Max. I’m 30 years old and I’ve had an affinity for math and physics since I was young. More importantly I have been able to spread my appreciation of these subjects to those around me, allowing them to find their own enjoyment in seeing the world through numbers. In my sophomore year of high school my pre-calculus teacher elected to use almost an entire year of PTO before retiring, leaving his classes with a substitute who was not prepared to teach an entire years’ worth of material. The kids in the class were struggling, some of whom were seniors needing a passing grade to graduate. I spent every day in that class writing out study guides and helping my friends and classmates. The average grade in the class midway through the semester was 71% but by the end of the year I managed to get every student a passing grade.
I’m not some genius kid–I can’t do complex arithmetic in my head in seconds, but I am exceptionally talented at making math and physics approachable for even the least inclined students. As for my credentials, I received near perfect scores on the math sections of the SAT and ACT as well and 5s on both the math and physics AP exams. I double majored in Math and Physics at Rutgers University and although I don’t work professionally in either subject (I am a certified Sommelier and develop beverage programs for top restaurants in NJ) I can’t express how valuable math and physics can be in any career endeavors and I hope I can share that with others.
I can work with students at any level from elementary to undergraduate as well as SAT/ACT prep. I tend to focus on teaching students how to teach themselves; to use online resources and textbooks to solve problems rather than memorizing formulas and answers. Those were the strategies that I found most useful throughout my academic career.
Feel free to reach out any time, I’m happy to discuss further or answer any questions.
