I am a retired elementary teacher with over 27 years of experience. I was a third grade teacher for many years and also taught Basic Skills in grades K-6. Most recently, I've tutored children at a local learning center.

I enjoy working with children and helping them gain self-confidence as they improve their reading, writing, and math skills. I feel it's important to make learning a positive experience for the student.

I love writing, and I am enthusiastic about teaching children how to express their thoughts clearly and creatively. I have taken creative writing courses, and I have been a member of a local writing group and poetry group since my retirement. I emphasize the importance of vocabulary skills in reading to improve comprehension.

I have had many years of experience in teaching elementary students. I give the student support, encouragement, and positive feedback.

I use phonics in teaching reading if the student has difficulty decoding words. Knowing how to break down a word into segments gives the student a tool to help sound out an unfamiliar word.
