Hello, I'm Shiven. I am currently an undergraduate student at Rutgers University studying Computer Science. I achieved a 4.0 in my first semester at Rutgers and graduated high school within the top 10 percent of my class. Throughout high school and college, I have always turned to tutoring to deepen my knowledge and share my passion for the subject with others. For instance, during my junior year of high school, I founded the first-ever Java programming class in the Monroe Township Public Library. This program was a 10-week program where I taught children aged 9-13 the basics of Java programming and ways to apply that to real projects. The kids had a fun time learning Java and were able to do little projects at the end, for example, one year all the kids made a hangman game and then the next time I ran the program they made bank simulators.

Another one of my tutoring experiences was tutoring math for a company called Scholar Squad. In this, I tutored a 6th grader in pre-algebra topics. This student was struggling in school before, and I helped him improve his grades and get him ahead of the curve. I was able to effectively use online tools such as the whiteboard feature to effectively show the students the different math concepts.

My most recent tutoring position is at Varsity Tutors were I tutor students in the SAT and ACT. I teach them tips and tricks that I used to score a 1540 on the SAT as well as help them take official practice tests. During these official practice tests I will let them individually work on these problems and if they are stuck or get the problem wrong I will jump and make sure that the concept is clear before moving on. One of the students that I tutored was able to improve his SAT score by 150 points in just 6 tutoring sessions with the help of my tutoring.
