Bio

At Bucknell University I tutored Calculus 1 for 2 years. I would like to get back into tutoring now that I am in graduate school, and am looking for opportunities to help students particularly in math. I don't have any experience as a TA, but I was a grading assistant in college and this also gave me further exposure when students came to me with questions about what they did wrong in their assignments.

Mathematics education is extremely important. All education is important, of course; however, there is a stigma surrounding mathematics. Why is it that many immediately shut down as soon as math is even brought up? Why this negative view of mathematics as "useless"? Mathematics is incredibly useful! Just ask any computer scientist, any Wall-Street professional, any economist, and statistician, etc... I find that this a failure of American culture as a whole. My wish is to show students how math is more than what they believe it to be, and to leave them with the ability to use a mathematical mindset to tackle a huge variety of problems.

I have had two years of experience tutoring college level Calculus. I majored in Mathematics at Bucknell University (top 50 liberal arts colleges in the US) and am currently obtaining a master's degree in statistics at Rutgers University. I have taken several courses in Advanced Calculus (known as Real Analysis in the academic circles), several courses in linear algebra, and statistics is my main field. I have had an advanced course in econometrics and experience in the Finance Industry as a Data Scientist. I use R constantly as a statistician and am also well-versed in Python.

If you are struggling with mathematics, please contact me. I particularly enjoy teaching the more advanced courses (Linear Algebra, Probability & Statistics, etc...) but I am willing to teach any level. If you would like to know more about my experience and my mathematical background I am happy to oblige.

Approved Subjects

Data Science

Data Science

I have been working as a data scientist since I graduated from Bucknell University with a degree in Applied Mathematics and a concentration in Statistics. I then went on to get my MS in Statistics from Rutgers University, while working, and learned many of the common data science tools and methods on the job. Recently, my work at Shopify has focused on experimentation and causal analysis, with some AI work via LLMs. At Goldman Sachs, I was on the advanced analytics team creating supervised models for specific threat tactics and utilizing unsupervised methods for anomaly detection. Prior to that I worked at Fidelity Investments in the Risk team as a Data Scientist as well, performing backtesting, MCMC simulations, and other various financial analyses.
Econometrics

Econometrics

I have experience in the finance industry working as a Data Scientist, often performing multivariate regression and using other advanced statistical techniques, include time series analysis, quantile regression, non-parametric methods. I have not tutored specifically in this subject; however, my mathematical tutoring experience should not be discounted. I have also taken a class specifically in Econometrics and am a Statistics graduate student.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I use Linear Algebra all the time as a statistician. I have taken two undergraduate courses, one called Elementary Linear Algebra and one called Advanced Linear Algebra. I have a thorough understanding of linear operators & linear functionals, as well as eigenvalues decompositions, polar decomposition, SVD, QR Decomposition, etc... I am confident that my mathematical expertise will help students in this area.
MATLAB

MATLAB

MATLAB, in my experience, is primarily used by engineering students/firms and some financial services organizations. While at Fidelity Investments and Goldman Sachs, I worked with MATLAB to perform risk analysis, writing production level code that scaled to an automated system. In Fidelity, the system was used on a daily basis to determine the amount of capital required as collateral by margin clients. At Goldman, the system performed a VaR-like analysis on cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
R

R

I use R all the time. I worked as a data scientist in the finance industry, using R or both statistical analysis and machine learning & data mining. I have a thorough understanding of R's vectorized approach to programming and am familiar with a wide range of packages.

Excellent tutor

My lesson with Brian was great. He is great at explaining and struck a perfect balance between giving input and letting me try things on my own. I would definitely recommend Brian for any help you might need with statistics.
