Hi! My name is Joseph W. I am a sophomore at Yale University studying Applied Mathematics. I am ranked at the top of my class with a 4.00 GPA. I have five years of experience tutoring middle school, high school, and college students. I have helped numerous students improve their grades, show promising standardized test scores, and aim for and achieve impressive college admission outcomes.
As a tutor, my first and foremost priority is the students and how they respond to new and confusing material. I always ask whether concepts make sense consistently and, if not, where I can assist them most. I believe learning should be collaborative and active, and although at times it can be scary or feel helpless, I try to be that support system and source of encouragement when needed, too.
My teaching plans would follow a rough format, but each lesson is unique and exciting in its own way, so it's hard to generalize:
1) The student lets me know beforehand (preferably one to two days) about which material we will cover so I can
prepare lesson materials.
2) Depending on what we will be going over, I will e some practice problems or examples for us to go over to help
learn and reinforce concepts, or we will review your coursework and help you get through that together.
My goal as a tutor is to help students understand the material, build their confidence and enthusiasm for learning, and empower them to tackle challenges independently and achieve their academic goals.
