Bio

I have been tutoring and teaching German and French for 30 years, starting back in my native country, Switzerland, and since 1990 in the USA. I am currently teaching part-time at a community college.

I favor a communicative approach that takes into consideration your own interest in language, be it a focus on more receptive learning with cultural material, structure based learning with a textbook, or a combination of the two. I also have experience working with children; in fact I teach at a Saturday language school for German heritage speakers that is attended by children from German families.

I am also a certified College Admission Counselor (UCLA, Member of NJACAC) who can help to establish college lists, find educational and financial matches in college choices and help with applications and essay brainstorming/revising/editing. I have successfully given college essay writing workshops and I loved it!

I hold a certificate in college admission counseling from the UCLA Extension and I am a member of the NACAC. I also did a practicum at the guidance office of Middletown High School North and gave successful college essay workshops.

I am a foreign language teacher (German and French) and I have been living in the US for over 20 years. Since teaching languages is what I do, I know how to teach English as a foreign language - after all, I learned it as a foreign language myself. I have experience working with children and can provide a wide range of material.

I studied French as my minor in grad school (University of Zurich, Switzerland) and specialized in French Literature. For two semesters, I took classes in literature and art at the University of Lausanne which is in the French part of Switzerland. I continued to live in Lausanne for 2 more years before moving to the US. I teach French as for-credit and non-credit class at Brookdale College.

I am a native German speaker from Switzerland. I graduated from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, with a Masters in German and French. I have been teaching and tutoring the two languages ever since. Currently, I teach at a community college and at a local university and I also work with younger students of German descent at a Saturday morning language school. I just love teaching!

I majored in linguistics and literature and worked as a freelance reporter and proofreader while going to college. After graduating with an MA, I held a job as an editor for a publishing house. Since moving to the USA, I have been teaching languages at the college level and helping students with writing, especially college essays.

Friendly and Flexible Tutor

Christine is a great tutor that will adjust the pace and style of the instruction depending on what you are looking for and what level you are at. I really appreciated how there was a back and forth communication about the lesson and felt like I was forced out of my comfort zone in the ways I wanted. I recommend!
