Hi! I'm Laura and I'm currently a 2nd-grade teacher at a private school in Monmouth County. I'm NJ certified as an Elementary Teacher, Teacher of Reading, and Teacher of Students with Disabilities. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's in Special Education with a minor in Elementary Education. Additionally, I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching in Reading and Language Arts. I have been teaching for 11 years and tutoring for close to 20. During that time I have worked with students in all subject areas in grade levels K-10.

I believe that all students have the ability to reach their potential if they are given the opportunity to learn in meaningful, engaging ways. Knowledge is power, so I do my best to make learning fun for students. I strive to use a variety of methods so that I can tailor my lessons to meet the individual needs of the student.

As part of my Special Education degree I took classes in optimizing education for students with ADHD. I have also completed professional development workshops during my time teaching to allow me to better serve the students in my class. I also have the unique perspective of having ADHD myself, which has required me to learn many coping skills on my own.

My MA is in assessing and teaching Reading. I have received training in the multisensory Orton Gillingham approach. I spent 4 years as a Literacy Specialist working with students with Dyslexia and other reading disabilities.

I am certified as an Elementary Teacher in grades K-6, Teacher of Reading K-12, and TOSD K-6. My degree in Special Education required coursework for children from birth to 26 years old, including methods courses that taught best practices for teaching students in grades K through 12 in all subject areas. I am currently teaching Math, Writing, Reading, Science and Social Studies to a 2nd Grade class, but have also taught Kindergarten through 6th grade at various times during my 11 year teaching career.
