I initially started tutoring younger kids when I was in middle school because as a babysitter, I strived to ensure that the parents for whomever I worked realized their child's capabilities, strengths & weaknesses. I would help kids organize, finish homework, as well as keep working parents updated on their child's progress. Starting from the lowest level of education uncovered the different ways of learning and teaching and ultimately facilitated the same success with my college-level students. Essentially, my experience of tutoring has given me the skills to adjust my teaching approach because I'm able to envision each child's thought process, to breakdown the misconceptions, and to encourage different methods of studying (memorization and/or conceptual analysis) with regard to subject matter as well as various test-taking strategies.
My love for tutoring has increased overtime from the satisfaction I've felt from seeing a student develop academic interests as the student gains confidence from his/her progress. An additional perk of tutoring is refreshing my own knowledge all while gaining more insight and at times, even coming across entirely new material! I love to help students find their most efficient ways of going about learning and test-taking compatible to their busiest schedules. In essence, I trust my teaching skills because I know how to challenge students without overwhelming them--and most importantly, I, myself, have continuous faith in all students and make sure they never give up on themselves, either.
