Hello! I'm RJ, and I am a junior mathematics student at Stockton University specializing in education. At Stockton, I have maintained a 4.0 GPA in coursework such as Calculus I, II and III, Discrete Mathematics and Linear Algebra. I have also taken foundational proof-based coursework in Number Theory, College Geometry, and Modern Algebra.
I work as a mathematics tutor in Stockton's Math Center during the academic year and have experience tutoring subjects ranging from Intermediate Algebra and Precalculus to Calculus II. I have also completed my first semester of student teaching in a high school setting, helping freshman and juniors learn Algebra I and II. To complement my tutoring and student teaching experience, I have also worked as a teaching assistant and grader for Discrete Mathematics at Stockton.
Over the past year, I have gained experience tutoring and teaching students from ages 14 to 30 in high school and college settings in one-on-one and group arrangements. Prior to that, I tutored elementary school students in mathematics on a volunteer basis.
I want to help students succeed in mathematics coursework, particularly within high school and college settings where students struggle more. Due to this, I personalize my tutoring based off of student proficiency. In practice, this looks like an initial, short demonstration of a concept, followed by asking students to answer questions regarding that concept. I then gauge understanding and deepen explanations depending on student comfort levels.
