Hi. My name is Susan and I’m looking forward to working with you. I’m currently a fourth grade public school teacher in Bergen County, NJ, but I’ve taught kindergarten, first, third, and fourth grades in previous years. I’m also a mom to two young boys who are 6 and almost 5. In addition, I have two master’s degrees, one in literacy as a reading and writing specialist and the other in teacher leadership.
I decided when I was in sixth grade that I was going to be a teacher, because many of my teachers didn’t teach me in the best way I learned. I wanted to change that for my students, and I have. Through a self study, I identified areas that were needed to help me learn such as knowing that my teacher cared, my artistic ability that wasn’t identified, and my love of travel and adventure. When I teach and tutor, I make connections with my students and learn about the areas they accel in. I then mold the curriculum or skills were working on around their interests, creating a positive learning environment. The subjects I teach and have taught are reading, writing, Math, Science, and History. I’m most comfortable working with students up to fourth grade.
