Bio

I have a PhD degree in theoretical chemistry from Northwestern University, where I did lots of programming and modeling for my study. I have been teaching both college and middle/high school students for many years. Graduated with a magna cum laude from KAIST, Korea.

Currently, I am an adjunct professor at Montclair State University, teaching chemistry. I have also tutored 30+ high school students for AP STEM subjects (Pre-cal, Calc AB/BC, Phy 1/C, Chem, Bio, etc.) and...

I have also tutored 30+ high school students for AP STEM subjects (Pre-cal, Calc AB/BC, Phy 1/C, Chem, Bio, etc.) and math/physics/chemistry Olympiads. No matter what the topic is, I love teaching and it's always been my passion.

Below are subjects/topics I can teach:

- Any level of math up to AP calc BC, college calculus, and competition math (up to AMC 12/AIME)
- Any level of science up to AP level + Olympiad preparation
- Especially for chemistry, all the way up to graduate school courses
- Competitive coding / computer programming in general (Python and C++)

With my students, I always try to understand their strengths and weaknesses first, and take it from there; I don't work with a pre-set, one-fits-all curriculum for everyone. I try to explain key concepts and problem solving strategy in easy terms, and ask lots of questions in the process. In my opinion, asking and answering is far more effective when it comes to learning, compared to passive learning.

For most courses, problem solving skill is just as important as understanding the theory. This is especially true for courses like AP Physics and Olympiad preparation. Getting exposed to various problems of good quality is crucial, and this is exactly what I can offer to my students. I often go beyond the textbook and "standard" learning materials, and give them extra problems from other sources, or my own work. This way, students will be able to gain problem-solving experience, as well as confidence in applying what they have learned already.

I live in Leonia, NJ and can travel ~20 miles for teaching, but online works just fine as well. I am fluent in English, Korean, and Japanese.

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

I took honour calculus I and II back in my undergrad, and lots of graduate school level physics course afterwards.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I have a PhD in theoretical chemistry from Northwestern University. Thus, I have a strong background in chemistry and physics, as well as math and programming. I also have lots of experience in teaching AP chem and Chem Olympiads.
Japanese

Japanese

I can fluently communicate in Japanese, both in writing and speaking.
Physics

Physics

I have a PhD in theoretical chemistry, which involves a lot of theory work as well as programming skills. The theory part is built on physics and math, so I am very much comfortable with physics -- especially quantum mechanics and EM, but I can teach other subjects as well.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I took honour calculus I and II back in my undergrad, and lots of graduate school level physics course afterwards. I have ample amount of teaching AP Calc and Precalc.
SAT Math

SAT Math

Currently teaching SAT Math at a private institute (Prestige Institute in NJ), along with other subjects
ACT Math
Algebra 1
Algebra 2
GRE
Music Theory
Trigonometry
