Self taught programmer, passionate to help others get started too

Hello! I am a passionate software developer and enjoy helping others get started as well. I am a senior .NET developer and have been in the industry full time for the past 8 years. I do everything from C#, SQL, ASP.NET, HTML/CSS, javascript, elasticsearch, docker, kubernetes, aws, azure, and much more.

I was self taught in software development. My cousin in law helped mentor me along the way, and I love being able to pass that onto others. I did tutoring professionally last year and earlier this year for adult students. This was for C#, SQL, and ASP.NET and we met over zoom. I loved it and had a great time seeing my students grow, and they reciprocated the appreciation. Most sessions were 1 on 1, as well as a couple group sessions throughout the week.

Because I went through the process of becoming self-taught, I know how to break concepts down and explain them in an intuitive way. I love sharing the industry / job market knowledge I have gained as well so students can move forward in their careers. I focus on giving students confidence and the tools they need, because once they have these two foundations, anything is possible. Lastly, I usually don't give answers out right away; I focus on guiding students towards an answer. I have found that the majority of learning comes from the tension in figuring things out, so I want to serve as a guide rather than an answer sheet.

Aside from tutoring, I have done a lot of other volunteer teaching though working at summer camps and teaching youth at church. I have worked with all ages (5 through 18), although for tutoring software development I would like to tutor middle school through adult. In summary, tutoring is a passion of mine that I would love to continue through Wyzant's platform.
