Hello and welcome!

I’ve worked widely across the arts, teaching from elementary through college levels. These roles reflect my ability to teach private flute, music theory, and ear training. Thank you for considering me to support your musical journey!

My educational approach:

I believe students thrive in spaces where they feel safe and welcome. I discourage “I can’t” and encourage “I will,” “I want,” or “I’ll try.” I hold myself accountable for my students’ understanding and confidence in their musical, technical, and artistic choices. I consider it a success when students leave with a lifelong love of learning and a deeper appreciation for music’s role in their lives.

With a background in jazz, composition, arranging, flute with electronics, and contemporary chamber music, I offer diverse pathways for students to develop their artistry. Regardless of discipline, I prioritize a strong foundation in musical traditions and practices to help each student find their unique voice.

My experience:

I currently serve as Teaching Artist Faculty at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center’s Jazz for Teens Program, which has nurtured many accomplished alumni. There, I teach applied lessons, music theory, and coach both jazz combos and big bands. I’m proud to teach students at every level, modeling that all stages of learning are valuable and essential to growth.

I’m also proud of my work in higher education. By the end of my first university teaching role, my students had advanced by four grade levels in applied proficiency, based on the National Flute Association’s Guide for Teachers. I bring a student-centered, holistic approach to private music education.

Looking forward to working with you!

Kind and encouraging

My daughter really looks forward to her flute lessons with Adrienne, and in just a few sessions I can see a real improvement in her playing! Adrienne is a very conscientious teacher who is methodical and organized. She is firm but kind and encouraging at the same time, which is a great balance. I'm really glad we found her!!

Praxis : Music Content Knowledge Exam

Adrienne was such a big help in getting me to pass the Music Praxis Exam, which I needed to get my certification in NJ. She understood the pressure that was on me and still had patience to go over anything that I was unsure with. Me being a vocalist, I struggled with transpositions and fingerings of all the different brass and woodwind instruments that were on the exam. She also helped improve my conducting skills and ear training with chord progressions, as well as Music theory with modes. I would highly recommend her as a tutor to anyone that is in need of help or is struggling to pass this exam. She would even be helpful for tutoring in music theory as well as ear training.

Did tutoring online and it was great. Adrienne is a very good communicator.

Was very helpful reviewing homework and preparing for a test. She takes the extra time to review course material prior to the tutoring session.
