As a vocalist with 14+ years of professional singing experience, and 4+ years of professional teaching experience, I am passionate about building up the voice and the nervous system, so you can sing just as beautifully on stage in front of crowds, as your do in the privacy of your bedroom. Learning to sing is all about learning to be sensitive to your body, and not pushing, but allowing the voice to flow. When singing is done "correctly" it feels so good and never veers into uncomfortable or painful territory. It is my wish for all singers, to feel that freedom and comfort in their voices.
Additionally, I'll teach you the specifics of each style. I have an extremely varied background as I have been trained and performed in all the following categories: classical voice (opera,) pop/rock, musical theatre, and jazz. We'll also learn about ear training, sight singing, and music theory, overall. When you're working with musicians, it's common for singers to be lacking in these categories, and thus, frustrate their band. I want you to have the skills where you can sing with any band, orchestra, or other musician, and hold your own! Theory separates the amateurs, from the professionals.
I've taught all ages and have no preference. Singing is amazing for all of us, and I cater my approach to each age group, and furthermore, each person. As a singer, your instrument is your body, so all of our instruments are a little different. I love the detective work of singing! We'll find exactly what your strengths and weaknesses are and we'll cater our lessons to your voice.
I graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (a conservatory in NYC) with a certificate in musical theatre. I also have my B.A. (honors - summa cum laude equivalent) from the University of Surrey in the U.K. I plan to receive my MA in voice pedagogy, and am continuing to study the voice in all areas of my life. It is my life's passion and I would love to share it with you.
