I have always taken a broader and empathic approach to tutoring to accommodate all learning styles. Being apt in mathematics and computer science from a young age I was trained to think abstractly to solve problems so I encourage my students to approach similarly and emancipate themselves from the specific details of the problem and see the bigger picture, and understand what concept is implicitly being taught so that they may apply it universally and the details can be imported regardless of what they are. I also take a very dialectical approach, instead of sitting back while a student struggles with a problem I like to create a discussion about it, giving them the freedom to make mistakes, receiving their mistakes empathically and still rewarding them for their thought processes to prevent frustration and disengagement, and then gently guiding them to the correct way of approaching problems if they continue to struggle. If they are able to grasp concepts quickly I am sure to reinforce these thought processes so that they may reapply them in the future.
