Hello my name is Robert W. - I am a math schoolteacher with five years of classroom experience and with a BS in Mathematics. I have both TOSD and Math k-12 standard certifications. My experience with teaching math extends through many different avenues that have shaped me into the teacher that I am today. I first was introduced to the school system when I did my student teaching in 2017 in Hillside NJ where I taught precalculus. I then tutored and worked as a substitute teacher for a year and a half before I began working at a school specifically for students on the autism spectrum with behavioral disabilities where I taught mathematics from basic counting (elementary level) to statistics and algebra (high school level) for four years. I learned principals of ABA such as how to conduct discrete trial training, chaining and tolerance training as well as how to run a behavior plan and manage maladaptive behaviors. This experience taught me about patience in working with my students and also how to explain concepts visually and with minimal language so that they could understand much more directly. I have extensive mastery in using systematic methods to teach functional skills as well as those that are more academically related.

So far this year I am at a public high school in rural new jersey where I currently teach AP Calculus as well as geometry and 8th grade math. In this role I have adapted to a much more fast-paced, academic environment in which I must adhere to guidelines relating to the timing of curricula (Such as the AP exam). However I still implement the strategies that I know work best for a variety of different learner types - in all of my classes. My specialty is in making the content relatable and understandable to students that have weak background knowledge. I also specialize in students increasing their confidence to organically achieve higher test scores and begin to gain a love for mathematics.
