I'm Joshua! I attended the University of Puerto Rico - Bayamon for two years, studying for a Bachelor's degree in Preschool and Elementary Education. I am currently residing in New Jersey, taking a year or two to just focus on tutoring, work, and animation. I have been tutoring for four years and have helped students from Elementary to High School in English, Science, Math (up to Pre-Calculus), SSAT and SAT prep, Art, and Animation. I have worked at a well know tutoring company, tutored on my own, and tutored even my fellow college students. My approach, when it comes to tutoring and helping students in ANY subject is that all students learn differently. In my time tutoring, I have seen many students learn and respond differently to different types of teaching. Some students prefer more visual learning, which could include drawings, presentations, using methods that are more visual (for example in Math, instead of using something like the FOIL method to simplify, use the box method instead, which is more visual and easier to see than the FOIL method for visual learners) , etc. Some students are more auditory learners, meaning they prefer learning via sounds and talking. Some students are more social learners, meaning they learn better through social interactions and connecting lessons to personal or real life/word events. There are many different ways a student could learn. I also try to get a grasp on what type of learner my students are on the first session and from then on, base my methods on how they learn, adapting to them and not having them adapt to me. Of course, I make sure the students can use the methods on their own in class and can also learn to adapt a bit to other methods so they aren't too lost in class and can still learn using other methods. I geninuely love teaching and tutoring, and what makes it all worth while, all the effort and struggles is seeing the look on a student's face when they realize something they were struggling with is no longer a struggle, that they can finally understand it.
