Hi! My name is Anand. I recently received a PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Washington. Prior to that, I received a BA in mathematics from Williams College in Massachusetts. I currently work as an applied scientist in the tech industry.
I have a substantial amount of teaching and tutoring experience. As an undergraduate, I worked as a TA for classes in linear algebra and partial differential equations, as well as a peer tutor for all levels of calculus and topology. After finishing my undergraduate degree, I worked part-time as a middle and high school math tutor with AJ Tutoring in the Bay Area, California for nearly a year. Next, I served as a math and physics teacher with the Peace Corps in Tanzania for nearly two years; in this capacity, I was the lead teacher for classes ranging from basic algebra to single variable calculus. Finally, as a graduate student, I worked often as a TA and peer tutor for classes such as nonparametric statistics, statistical theory, and survival analysis in epidemiology, among others.
As a tutor, I place emphasis on getting to know the student, their needs, and their preferred learning style. When possible, I do my best to learn the material with them, so they can see how I think about problems and come to conclusions themselves as much as possible; I've found this significantly improves learning and retention. I adjust this approach to match the needs of the student in question. I'm always happy to hear from students and parents about how I could be better meeting their needs.
