I'm a NYS-certified Teaching Assistant (Level 1) with over seven years of experience working with K-12 students in math and general instruction, and I'm currently in the process of becoming a fully certified high school math teacher through New York's Transitional B pathway. Along the way I've worked with elementary, middle, and high school students in settings ranging from one-on-one tutoring to full classroom co-teaching, so I'm comfortable adjusting my approach based on how a student actually learns rather than sticking to one method.
What sets my teaching style apart is a background that blends education with data and technical training. I hold a B.S. in Biology from St. John's University and am completing a B.S. in Computer Science at NJIT, and I spent over a year as a SAS Programmer Analyst supporting clinical trial data analysis in the pharmaceutical industry, where precision and clear step-by-step reasoning were part of the job every day. I bring that same structured, logical approach into how I teach math: breaking problems into clear steps, showing students why a method works and not just how to execute it, and using patience and repetition to build real understanding instead of memorized shortcuts. I find that students who've struggled with math in the past often just need someone to slow down and rebuild the foundation with them, and that's the kind of tutor I aim to be.
Whether I'm working with a student who needs to catch up on Algebra or Geometry fundamentals, or one who wants to get ahead, I focus on building genuine confidence alongside the skills. I'm bilingual in English and Spanish, which has been useful in connecting with a wider range of students and families, and I bring both classroom-tested teaching methods and a genuine enthusiasm for helping students see that math can make sense.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I am a NYS-certified Teaching Assistant beginning a role as an Algebra I teacher at a New York City charter school for the 2026-2027 school year. My approach centers on breaking problems into clear, sequential steps and making sure students understand the reasoning behind a method, not just the mechanics of solving it. I bring over seven years of K-12 math and instructional experience, including work with students who needed extra support building foundational skills before tackling grade-level material.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

My teaching experience centers on Algebra I, and I bring that same structured foundation-first approach to Algebra II, where a shaky grasp of factoring, functions, or linear equations from Algebra I is usually the real obstacle to success with more advanced topics. Through several years of K-12 tutoring across a range of math topics, I've worked with students at varying levels and I'm comfortable identifying and shoring up the specific gaps that hold a student back. I focus on rebuilding confidence alongside skill, since many students who struggle with Algebra II have simply never had someone slow down and reconnect it to what they already know.
Calculus

Calculus

I completed Calculus coursework as part of my Computer Science degree at New Jersey Institute of Technology, giving me a solid technical grounding in limits, derivatives, and integrals. While my classroom teaching experience is centered on Algebra I, I bring the same structured, step-by-step explanatory approach to Calculus concepts, focusing on connecting new material back to the algebra and functions foundation a student already has. I'm best suited to students working through introductory or AP-level Calculus who want concepts broken down clearly rather than advanced or competition-level material.
Common Core

Common Core

I have direct, hands-on experience teaching and supporting students under Common Core curriculum standards across multiple NYC-area classrooms, including special education settings within NYC DOE District 75. I'm well-versed in Common Core math standards and how they build progressively across grade levels, which helps me identify exactly where a student's understanding diverges from what they're expected to know. My approach combines that curriculum knowledge with individualized instruction, adjusting lesson plans and pacing to match Common Core learning objectives while meeting each student where they actually are.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I studied Discrete Mathematics as part of my Computer Science coursework at NJIT, covering logic, set theory, combinatorics, and graph theory as applied to computer science problem-solving. As a certified math educator, I bring a structured, patient teaching style to explaining these more abstract concepts, which many students find trickier than traditional algebra because the reasoning is less familiar. I'm well-suited to students encountering Discrete Math for the first time in a college-level or AP Computer Science context who want clear, worked-through explanations.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

Over the past seven years I've worked with students across the K-6 range in a variety of settings, including after-school math instruction for grades 3-5, individualized tutoring for K-12 students, and classroom support work with elementary-aged students in special education settings within NYC DOE. This range means I'm comfortable adjusting both content and approach depending on where a student falls in that K-6 span — from early number sense and basic operations in the younger grades to fractions, decimals, and early pre-algebra reasoning by 5th and 6th grade. I'm a NYS-certified Teaching Assistant currently teaching high school Algebra I, so I bring a clear sense of where elementary math skills need to lead, and I use that to prioritize the foundational habits that make later math easier rather than teaching topics in isolation.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I've spent years teaching and tutoring elementary-aged students in math, including leading after-school instruction and homework support and providing one-on-one tutoring through a structured, individualized curriculum at a learning center. My approach with younger students focuses on building genuine number sense and confidence rather than rushing to procedures, using concrete examples and repetition so concepts stick before moving on. I also bring experience supporting elementary students with special needs in classroom settings, which has made me especially attentive to explaining the same concept multiple ways until it clicks for each individual learner. Whether a student needs help catching up or wants to build a stronger foundation before middle school, I focus on patient, clear instruction that meets them where they are.
Geometry

Geometry

My classroom experience centers on Algebra, and I bring that same structured, foundation-first approach to Geometry, where a shaky grasp of algebraic reasoning is often what actually trips students up on proofs and problem-solving rather than the geometric concepts themselves. Through several years of K-12 tutoring and classroom support, I've worked with students across a range of math levels and I'm comfortable breaking down geometric reasoning, properties, and proofs into clear, sequential steps. I focus on connecting new geometric concepts back to algebra a student already understands, which helps demystify why a proof or formula works rather than asking students to memorize it.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have over seven years of experience teaching and supporting math instruction across elementary and middle school grades, including after-school math instruction for grades 3-5 and individualized math tutoring through structured curricula, giving me direct, hands-on experience with exactly the foundational skills Pre-Algebra covers. As a NYS-certified Teaching Assistant now teaching Algebra I at the high school level, I understand precisely where Pre-Algebra needs to lead — which means I focus on building the number sense, ratios, proportional reasoning, and early equation-solving skills that make the jump to Algebra I feel manageable rather than sudden. My background also includes special education classroom support, so I'm comfortable adjusting pacing and explanation style for students who need concepts broken down more gradually or presented multiple ways before they click.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I built a strong working foundation in Precalculus topics — including functions, trigonometric identities, the unit circle, exponential and logarithmic functions, and sequences and series — through my Calculus coursework as part of my Computer Science degree at New Jersey Institute of Technology. While my classroom teaching experience is centered on Algebra, I bring the same structured, step-by-step explanatory approach to Precalculus, focusing on connecting new concepts back to the algebra and functions foundation a student already has, since Precalculus is largely about extending and combining skills students have already partially learned. I'm best suited to students working through standard high school Precalculus who want the reasoning behind identities, functions, and graphing explained clearly rather than just memorized.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I built a solid working foundation in Trigonometry through Calculus coursework as part of my Computer Science degree at New Jersey Institute of Technology, where trig functions, identities, and the unit circle are used extensively. While my classroom teaching experience is centered on Algebra, I bring the same structured, step-by-step explanatory approach to Trigonometry, focusing on connecting trig concepts back to the algebra and geometry foundation a student already has. I'm best suited to students working through introductory or Algebra II/Precalculus-level Trigonometry who want the reasoning behind identities and functions explained clearly rather than just memorized.
