Hi! My name is Lauren, and I am a certified Elementary Education teacher with a focus in 6th - 8th grade Language Arts. I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in English through Rutgers the State University and went on to get my Masters degree from the Rutgers Graduate School in Elementary Education with a focus in Middle School Language Arts (6th-8th).
I have 6 years of experience teaching in the 6th grade classroom and 2 years of tutoring experience working with a 9th grade student. In my tutoring, I worked directly with a student to strengthen reading skills, analyze literature, increase writing stamina, and respond effectively to prompts using textual evidence to support. We explored new vocabulary and practiced applying writing conventions and grammar to writing endeavors. Currently, I am a 6th grade teacher who utilizes the StudySync curriculum to provide instruction. In addition, we read novels together, practice critical thinking, and learn strategies that help in answering higher order thinking questions.
As a tutor, I will work to craft lessons that will fill gaps in learning, that are directed towards standards and skills that the student has yet to master, and provide fun and engaging learning moments that are built to remember!
