Friendly and helpful ESL tutor

I have extensive experience in teaching and tutoring English as a second language, including teaching at the community college level. I worked for several years as an ESL instructor at Piedmont Virginia Community College in Charlottesville, VA, where I taught the basics of writing to adults learners of all ages. This was a classroom setting, where I usually taught between 10 to 15 students. I really enjoyed creating various worksheets and interactive lesson plans for my students, who came from all over the world. I also occasionally tutored students at the Learning Center at PVCC, where I worked as a front-desk person and receptionist.

I started my formal tutoring at Bowling Green State University, where I earned an MA degree in TESOL. In the Writer’s Lab, I helped many students improve their persuasive writing skills and worked with them on the sentence and paragraph level to enhance the clarity and coherence of their ideas. I attempted to use a wholistic approach, focusing on the writing process overall, but I also tutored ESL students in sentence construction and grammar in context. In the Writer’s lab, all of my tutoring sessions were one-on-one, and I found this experience to be quite rewarding, as I enjoy helping learners achieve their goals.

I have also participated in private language exchanges, where I would teach English to someone and they would teach me Spanish or German. I enjoyed these sessions as they gave me a chance to apply the knowledge I learned in my MA program.
All in all, I enjoy helping people learn English in a relaxed and fun setting.
