I am a 37 year old fine artist working in whatever art form that will allow me to explore the stories I want to tell. My BFA degree specialization is painting and drawing, and I mostly do oil painting, but also expanded my education to include other traditional gallery art forms like printmaking and book arts, as well as the more industry-based specializations like character design for tv and movies and sequential art (think sunday funnies and comic books).

For me, learning to be an artist encompasses two ideas:
(1) Art is communication. Learn the 'rules' so that you, as the artist, can more effectively break them, and bring the viewer into your world.
(2) Internal motivation is key. Finding a student's internal motivator and weaving that into whatever skill we are working on is something I consider imperative to long-term success.
I am new to tutoring, but I do have more than 2 years of professional experience working with disabled and neurodivergent adults and children with varying access needs, teaching both life skills and art classes.
I also have a BS in Science, Biotech, and Pre-veterinary Medicine, with a working background in medical and laboratory environments. I plan to get my MFA in medical illustration. So, if your student artist also has an affinity for the sciences, this is a direction we can prepare for.
