If you are eager to express yourself in English with fluency, accuracy, clarity, and confidence, I would love to help you. Mastering the English language is tough, but it can also be great fun. Time spent working towards achievement of your English language goals is a sound investment in your personal, academic, and professional success.

I hold a Master's degree in Adult Education with a concentration in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) and have over fifteen years of instructional and administrative/advisory experience in the field. In private language schools and in a university setting, I have taught and advised students from all over the globe, from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds.

My greatest strength is my commitment to personalized teaching methods and study practices that ensure continuous progress outside the time we spend together. Mastering English requires you to live the language -- a challenging task if you, like many, are stuck in a translation rut. Together we will break tired, old study habits that have prevented achievement of your full potential. Sessions will be tailored to your personal interests and specific language goals.

If finding time to work on your English is difficult, consider online tutoring sessions. I would be happy to meet you via the Wyzant online platform (at no cost) to learn about your current challenges and needs. Together, we can discuss how online sessions might be structured within your schedule - giving you an efficient way to meet your English language goals.

Note: Conversation practice, accent reduction, proofreading, and editing assistance available.

Accent reduction students complete and share a self-recording for review prior to the first practice session and receive a list of recommended sounds and speech patterns for targeted instruction and practice.

Grammar,

Grammar

As an ESL instructor, I have experience teaching grammar points using both direct and indirect methods. I understand students' desire to find a formula for accurate English production, as well as the need for them to develop an intuitive sense of the language. Letting go of native language interference is quite challenging. Grammar topics may need to be approached from multiple angles before a dramatic "A-ha!" moment or a gradual acceptance of a structure occurs. I have the patience and experience to get you there.
Proofreading,

Proofreading

I am adept at assisting with writing errors related to spelling, grammar, word choice, syntax, and overall organization of ideas--working with both native and non-native English speakers. I go beyond examination of individual words and sentences and provide feedback on the content and organization of your writing. I am happy to review multiple drafts and discuss assignments on the phone or the online platform.

You may sometimes feel frustration when unable to find the English words to express exactly what you want to say. People understand you but the nuance of meaning you want to convey just isn't coming across. I can help. I have years of experience helping students grow their vocabulary and master commonly used idiomatic expressions. A robust vocabulary is an important component of self-expression -- in the workplace, in school, and in the company of family and friends. Don't let a limited vocabulary prevent your voice from being heard.

Amazing speech lessons!

I have been practicing my American accent with Maggie for more than one year now, and I can say that Maggie is an amazing teacher: she is able to explain things in a clear and precise way, while sharing cultural notions in a fun conversation. The lessons I am doing with her are helping me to improve my performance at work, especially during my interactions with colleagues or clients. I can see she is passionate about teaching, loves the English language, and she is eager to share her passion with her students. Thanks Maggie!

Excellent Tutor for Accent Reduction

I am from France and I have been living in the US for the past 8 years. I have been working with Maggie to improve my English pronunciation for about 6 months. She is an incredible teacher and has been the key to my improved pronunciation. Maggie is patient and very knowledgeable. She is an expert at explaining in a clear and concise way how each word is supposed to sound. These classes have truly given me an entirely different perspective on the English language and how sounds are made. I highly recommend Maggie’s tutoring services for anyone looking to reduce their accent and improve their pronunciation.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Maggie thought me "th" pronunciation both voiced and voiceless. She is excellent at teaching and sent additional material including video after the class. She sent the test words before the class and identified critical issues in my pronunciation and gave the feedback ASAP. Her feedback helped me to understand the agenda of the session and to help me track my improvements.

Outstanding tutor!

I am taking writing classes with Maggie. I am very impressed with her thorough approach. She was prepared for our first class, so we were able to quickly identify my weak points and decide on the strategy for our work. She is extremely knowledgeable, meticulous, and patient. She explains and answers my questions until I fully understand the issue and have no more further questions. We are using the wide range of materials and assignments, thus, I have a “full coverage” of my difficulties with writing.

Maggie has been very professional, patient and knowledgeable during my classes I took from her.

Maggie helped me in understanding and identifying the challenging areas in speaking American English. She addressed these issues by teaching me how to make proper sounds and pronunciations. Taking classes with her helped me a lot.

Great Tutor

I contacted Maggie because I needed someone to help me review my post graduate studies personal statement. Maggie went above and beyond expectations. My first draft didn't have good flow, so Maggie suggested I structure the paper in a different way...and it made all the difference. The final draft was clear, concise, and professional. I felt very comfortable submitting my "new and improved" personal statement along with my application. Today I received the good news I've been accepted to the program. Thanks Maggie for everything, you are a wonderful tutor with great advice. Also, you are wonderful at communicating with the students. You really get it!
