Hi, my name is Yethmie! I am an undergraduate student studying Chemistry at Barnard College of Columbia University. I expect to receive my bachelor's degree in Chemistry in May 2027. I graduated from high school with departmental awards in Chemistry and English. I have been tutoring for the past 4-5 years, with my experience starting in high school. With the National Honor Society, I volunteer tutored students in chemistry (regular, honors and AP), middle school math/algebra, and Algebra II. My tutoring experience followed me to Barnard College, where I tutored students in General Chemistry I and II, as well as Calculus I and II. During this time, I also continued online tutoring with several students from my old high school, and assisted specifically with AP Chemistry exam preparation. Additionally, I am also an Afterschool STEM Mentor, a role with the New York Academy of Sciences in which I taught a hands-on inquiry-based science curriculum to public elementary schools in New York City. Outside of tutoring, I work in a research lab at Columbia University where I study protein chemistry. My experience in tutoring ranges from elementary aged to high school students.

Chemistry is a daunting subject, and I'd like to extend the idea to all of my students that they can truly master any subject. Throughout my schooling experience, my phenomenal teachers and professors have been the one to instill in me a sense of confidence, and I hope to carry on this tradition with my own students. As a tutor, I believe in catering my techniques to each student, hoping to bring out the best in them. Problem-solving, connections to real-world problems, and inquiry-based learning are all models of teaching that I like to follow while tutoring. Additionally, I believe that teaching dense material in a way that encourages creativity and fun is truly the way to go. I also believe ample practice is key. I am proficient in utilizing technology for tutoring purposes, and can adapt to engaging remote learning as well with my iPad.
