I have tutored students for many years which allows me to diagnosis any reading or writing issues, and then decide on a program to address the students needs. I like tutoring because I can develop a strong relationship with the student, and they are more comfortable in asking for help.
I have been a teacher for the last 20 years and have taught students from 3rd-8th grade with reading and writing problems. I am always interested in learning and have gone on for more schooling to help my students. I am a certified teacher N to 8th grade, a special education teacher, a certified supervisor, a Master's Degree as a Reading Specialist, and I have just completed my certification in the Wilson Reading Program. I use many different types of assessments to help me determine the best way to help the students I am tutoring.
All of my techniques and strategies that I incorporate into my reading lessons are based on the best practices and research. I try to keep current with the research to improve student's reading and writing skills.
I have been teaching the Wilson Reading Program for three years. I have just completed my year long certification process to become an expert.
Besides the fact that I have been teaching over 20 years from grades 3 to 8th, I also developed a study skills course and wrote the curriculum for my district. Teaching study skills is a lost art and needs to be taught! As far as teaching spelling, I use what the research dictates, and using the Wilson Program helps teach children how to spell.
I look forward to hearing from you and telling me your areas of trouble/weaknesses that you are experiencing in reading or writing.
