My name is Josh. Teaching for me is not a job or career it is a passion of mine. When I was in elementary school I was not the best student. My teachers were not taught straight from the book there was no student engagement or creativity. As a teacher, I feel that learning can be fun and creative as long as the teacher is prepared and has the students best interest in mind. I have taught in the public school system for eight years. Learning requires mistakes to be made, questions to be asked, and risks to be taken. It also requires a teacher that is willing to try different approaches to make the student successful. Preparation is something that I pride myself in. When your child needs help, I am teacher that is willing to make sure all aspects are cover and the material is understood.
I have a K-6 grade NJ Teaching Certificate with a minor in History. Being in the public school system for eight years I have taught in many different formats. I understand whole group, specific subject areas, and mostly small group instruction. It is in small group or even one on one that you can assess the student a hit those target areas where they might be struggling. It is where the students feel more comfortable and are willing to take more chances. It allows the teacher to see where the struggles may be, and helps create the guidance the student may need to become successful.
I have taught elementary school math in both, small group and whole class settings for 8 years. I have a vast knowledge about the concepts of the new math program and bring fun and exciting ways to help students grasp new skills and strategies to help problem solve. I have also worked in test prep tutoring for students preparing for standardized testing.
Being an elementary school teacher you have the benefit of teaching everything. Science was one of my favorite subjects because it shows the student content in ways other subjects can’t. Science allows you to use so many manipulatives it really opens a student’s creativity.
