I am a huge fan of facilitating rather than lecturing, and was able to fine-tune my facilitating and teaching skills this past semester by being a Teaching Assistant for a Brown University general chemistry course where I ran extra-help and problem-solving sessions.
After years of tutoring I found that what made it so easy to enjoy it was the little moments of student success. That little success where a student feels they are starting to grasp a concept or when they are able to complete a practice problem without facilitation - that's what makes tutoring enjoyable because you get to witness someone's skills and abilities grow and evolve.
I have been tutoring for ACT Math for 2 years now, having done well on the section myself (scoring a 34). As an experienced tutor and test-taker I am familiar with the test format and am able to give useful strategies and tips specific to the ACT.
Science is my specialty in tutoring. I am currently a teaching assistant at Brown University for a general chemistry course and I have tutored science subjects for 4 years. Most recently, I tutored peers at school in organic chemistry. I am very familiar with the subjects and material in STEM areas such as Biology and Chemistry (given that I have taken the AP tests in high school and scored 5's on both and have taken college courses in both areas). Overall, I am very skilled in science material and it is the subject I have the most tutoring experience in.
