I have an undergraduate degree in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. My Master's Degree is for Education of the Developmentally Handicapped. I have also been trained to teach Reading using the Wilson Reading Program which employs a multi sensory approach. I also completed 15 credits toward Reading Specialist. I have over 30 years of experience teaching in public and private schools. After I retired, I missed teaching, so I taught 4 years in Marlboro Township Schools. I spent most of my time at Defino Elementary, a Blue Ribbon School.
I have often gained tutoring experience through the schools at which I taught. I often taught Reading using the Wilson Program/Materials. I usually worked with a student twice a week for hourly sessions. I always developed an excellent relationship with students and parents. I still have contact with some of my ex. students. My approach is first, to make my client as relaxed as possible so they can concentrate their energy off learning. I often compose additional materials to appeal to my clients, often using their name in practice materials. I also try to obtain info about the students strengths and weaknesses by reading school reports, talking to teachers, and/or through speaking with parents.
Most of my tutoring clients have been elementary students. However, I have experience teaching pre-schoolers in the classroom setting. I often use Wilson Materials to teach Reading. This program can also be used to teach reading to dyslexic adults. I enjoy teaching and miss working with students. I am looking forward to tutoring and anxious to help clients reach their full potential.

Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I received my undergraduate degree for Teacher of the Deaf and my Master's Degree for Developmentally Handicapped. For both courses I took reading courses. Later, I completed 15 credits toward Reading Specialist. I was trained to use the Wilson Reading Program and spent 5 years teaching students at a school for dyslexic students.
Hard of Hearing

Hard of Hearing

I received my Master's Degree for Teaching the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. I have over 25 years of experience teaching the deaf and hard of hearing at the New Jersey School for the Deaf and a few public schools, most recently in Howell Township.
Special Needs

Special Needs

My undergraduate degree prepared me to teach the deaf and hard of hearing. Because I felt that I needed more education to meet my students with additional challenged, I decided to get my master's to teach Special Ed. This has prepared me to teach students with multiple handicaps. I have taught students with low cognitives abilities to students with high I.Q.s.
