An Experienced Elementary School teacher who loves language arts

I graduated from American International College with a BS in Elementary Education, and a subsequent Master's Degree in Early Childhood education. My love of languages and proficiency in writing was buttressed with a strong foundation in grammar. I feel that children need to be equipped with the tools to use language both orally and in writing. Grammatical structure and a strong vocabulary will give them that. I have enjoyed working with all age groups, but I enjoy the middle grades most because the child's inquisitive mind blooms at that time. I enjoy being part of that development by helping them to think through the subject at hand, ask questions, and learn not just the "what" but very importantly the "why and how." I apply the same principles in teaching math. Conceptual understanding of mathematical operations is key to move onto more complex problems.

Elementary Social Studies and Science are two subjects I also enjoy. Having come to the United States as an immigrant many years ago, I understand and appreciate the challenges faced by young children for whom English is a second language. I welcome to help such children.

What I enjoy most is the smile on a child's face when they accomplish a challenging task.

I focus on teaching the child how to learn. This I accomplish by teaching them the foundations of language, such as vocabulary, grammar, reading and critical thinking about what they read. The same applies to math. I believe in equipping the child with the basic fundamentals of math skills which will enable them to easily move to more complex operations.

I have developed my writing skills through reading, having a strong grammar background, and large vocabulary. I have had extensive experience in writing for both adults and children. I've also taught ESL to immigrant adults.
