Hello, my name is Benjamin. I graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Throughout high school, I saw the ways my professors structured their lesson plans. They inspired me to further strengthen my teaching skills that I acquired as a teenager to broaden my horizons. I have two years of experience tutoring students and helping them achieve their goals. At 15 years old, I had a younger brother who struggled with mathematical concepts, and I realized he was falling behind in school. I was able to use a combination of visual learning techniques to help him improve his skills. From then on, I held study sessions in high school where I would help a group of students hone their mathematical abilities in certain subjects such as arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra 1, and algebra II. We built a safe environment where everybody felt comfortable voicing their concerns about certain topics that they wanted to improve. I had direct evidence that these study sessions were helpful. As a result of our collaborative communication in these sessions, my fellow students were able to improve their grades from a C average to a B or A average.
During my college years, I volunteered in the academic assistance program, helping students with their homework and preparing them for tests in subjects like math and english. For math, I specialize in topics ranging from basic arithmetic to high school algebra. For reading/writing, I specialize in topics ranging from basic sentence structure skills to reading comprehension from written articles.
I've developed a teaching regiment and am able to gauge the progress and level of each of my students to custom tailor the curriculum to their individual needs.
