Mathematics and Standardized Testing Tutor

Hi! My name is Nishita and I'm a current student at Penn State University at University Park studying Mathematics with a minor in Statistics. I have been a math tutor for around 4 years now, with my students ranging from ages 11-18. I also specialize in standardized testing, such as SAT, PSAT, and ACT because of my ability to analyze quantitatively and qualitatively. Currently, I am furthering my tutoring skills at school as a Learning Assistant for Calculus III and Vector Analysis.

I enjoy working one-on-one because it really gives me the chance to understand a student's thought process before they approach the work. As someone who has definitely poured hours into math, I acknowledge where the most difficult aspects of grasping the material may come from, so I direct attention specifically in those areas. Additionally, I encourage struggling when learning new concepts: instead of handing out the answer, I ask students why they got the answer they did. 9 times out of 10, this approach pinpoints the reason why they have been answering other questions incorrectly, and I can nip the problem in the bud. Also, this prompts students to critically thinking about how they got the answer, which is an especially useful skill to have in subjects that require such analytical skills.
