I did my doctorate in Biotechnology and worked as Post-doctoral Fellow at PHRI, Rutgers University, Newark. My doctoral work involved the isolation of industrially important extracellular enzymes producing thermophilic bacteria. Later I gained expertise in the field of Infectious disease and applied science and familiarized myself with computational biology and did certificate courses in computational biology.
In spite of my research experience, my forte lies in teaching. During my career, I have taught graduate students from diverse background for over 8 years and conducted research projects with them. I have always been impressed with the enthusiasm the young students and want to give them proper knowledge and direction to excel at highest level.
My teaching philosophy is based on a famous saying by B. Franklin “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn”. Thus for me teaching is not about giving the knowledge, it’s about involving the students in an interactive conversation, sharing their thoughts and passing the knowledge. Today’s student will be the foundation of future and for them to succeed, it’s essential that they just don’t memorize the concept but also learn the science behind them and able to apply them intellectually. I believe that all students are not same and each of the students is special and harbor a hidden talent. As it’s rightly said by MV Doren “The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery”, therefore as a teacher I stride towards understanding and adapting to cater the needs of students.
