Hi! my name is Zeal. I recently graduated in May from Rutgers University with a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science and a minor in psychology. During my college I learned how important the way I studied impacted my performance, and the professors who really catered to student individual needs and different ways they studied. They went the extra mile to help students who suffered through test anxiety, or just spending an extra hour reviewing concepts.
During my four years I worked as a teaching assistant for Physics for Sciences, and I also worked as peer academic coach. Both positions allow me to interact with college students who need help understand effective ways to study and best to utilize their time. As a teaching assistant I was responsible for making sure 20+ students were understanding the core physics concepts that were being taught in lecture.
During recitations, I was able to use teaching skills learned in the pedagogy class such as asking reflective questions, practicing effective problem solving skills, creating a collaborative learning space for the students. Every student has their own way of understanding, whether they learn best through practicing each skill set over and over again, or learning to teach back the concept they are currently working on.
I believe I have the right tools to help students struggling with learning how to effectively study and I believe that it is important to instill this skill set at an early age. I make sure my students feel comfortable asking any and every question that they might not be able to ask in class, I have fun and creative approaches to practicing their skills and materials from any classwork. I have ample experience also working with little kids and understanding what works for them. I am also open to any resources that parents might want me to use or try. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns!
