Bio

To begin, I am an elementary and special education educator. Previously, I attended Montclair State University for both my bachelor's and master's degrees. With the support of my family, friends, and the Almighty God, I was able to graduate summa cud laude both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

To begin, I am an elementary and special education educator. Previously, I attended Montclair State University for both my bachelor's and master's degrees. With the support of my family, friends, and the Almighty God, I was able to graduate summa cud laude both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

As an educator, I strive to make learning a positive and engaging experience. I enjoy getting to know my students, seeing what their passions are and what they get excited about. This gives me tools to use when planning instruction. Overall, my approach to learning is hands-on with having students understand the "why" instead of rote memorization. When I have a struggling student, it is my job to find where the issue lies through observation, questioning, and working with the student one-on-one.

Once I have the information I need, I decide on the best way to instruct the student with a hands-on approach. I then give students time to practice on their own, giving feedback or assistance when needed. Finally, I like to give an informal and brief assessment about what the student learned, what they thought was interesting, and a question they have moving forward.

As an experienced Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 tutor, I have developed various strategies to assist learners. Through one-on-one interactions and more in-depth study, I will assist your child in becoming more confident about their learning and moving forward in a positive direction. Students and I often work through problems together before students trying independently.

Graphic organizers, mnemonic devices and concrete tools are strategies I commonly use in the classroom and during tutoring sessions to enable students to reach their full potential.

As an in-class support teacher, I have worked with students who have various needs in mathematics. Using learning tools such as base ten blocks, counters, dry erase boards, games and other methods, I have developed a toolkit to assist different kinds of learners. Math instruction must be explicit and tailored to the individual learner to be successful; I am confident I can meet this ambitious goal for all students I take under my wing.

Reading

As an elementary & special education teacher, I have ample experience in reading instruction. Students whom I have worked with have increased their reading fluency, their ability to retell the story as well as work on comprehension strategies. Additionally, I work with students on engaging with the text, including making text-to-self connections and reasonable predictions. Using strategies such as think marks and post-its, students will uncover skills to enhance their reading skills, becoming stronger readers and critical thinkers.

As an in-class support teacher, I work with students to meet their diverse academic and behavioral needs. In most cases, this involves modifying curriculum and using different tools to assist students in understanding the material. This may include graphic organizers, chunking assignments into smaller pieces and using hands-on materials to enhance their learning experience.

Study Skills

As a highly organized teacher and former student, I stress the importance of setting goals. Moreover, I then teach my students how to shorten those goals into smaller, everyday goals to reach the big goals. This has been successful with students in approving their confidence as a whole, in turn increasing their grades in the academic setting.
