It's nice to meet you! Thank you for considering me to be your/your child's tutor. I am Dr. Waleed K, I graduated with my PhD in 2022 in molecular biology after graduating summa cum laude with my bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science in 2016. As I went through school and graduate training, I realized the material was never hard. Yes, it took work to memorize the molecules and pathways, and doing independent research was the 2nd most difficult thing I had ever done, but through it all I discovered that there is one thing more important than one's natural ability when learning new things. My PhD mentor at the time told me "Waleed, it is better to spend 30 minutes with an expert than an entire day in the library". The average time for completing a biology PhD at the time was approximately 7 years. I did it within 6 because I had a mentor who guided me properly. From then on I knew I wanted to be a teacher - to help others gain knowledge, confidence, and a love of the field I am so interested in.
From 2017 to 2022, during my PhD, I taught courses at City College (in New York) and began to form my pedagogical philosophy and style. I grew to love connecting with my students and was highly rated and regarded as a teacher who cared and knew his stuff. Even now I still have old students reach out to me for advice and recommendations. In 2022 I chose to teach high school students to improve pedagogically since college professors are never actually trained to teach. Over the past 2 years I have improved further as a 9th grade classroom teacher and a 1-on-1 tutor (I host our school's afterschool homework help program) and have become familiar with the science standards in New Jersey. Understanding what students need to know in college allows me to be one of the best high school teachers.
I believe that due to my broad experience and ability to work with a student, rather than at them, I am the best choice to help you/your child reach their fullest potential.
